Question about digital microsoft gift card

For example, If i redeem a microsoft gift card from Microsoft reward does it automatically goes into yours account or is there like you have to put a code in to redeem it. Also how do you use them after you redeem them when I check payment option the gift card you can only redeem code. If you can explain to me how they work I would appreciate it. Sorry I never try buying apps on Microsoft store with digital gift card.

Those cards are automatically deposited into your account. When you make a purchase through Xbox or the Microsoft store, you would choose your Microsoft account balance as your payment method in order to use the funds from the card .

If you are purchasing devices like Xbox console, surface pro they are limited to being used for them.
