Purchasing additional licence and/or disk for an already installed game

Hi,

This might seem an unusual question. Both my adult son and I got an Xbox one for Christmas. Recently we have discovered how to merge our families, so his family and mine all appear in the same family. Him, his wife and children have their Xbox one set
as their home Xbox, whilst myself and my wife have ours set as ours. I am an XboxGold Live member and my son is as well. With this set-up we have discovered that when my son and his family visit, when my son signs in, I can download the Xbox games he has
purchased on to my xbox, and his kids can continue to play their games. This is a great systme and the parental controsl side of it are also great.

My question is this: Some of the games I now have on my Xbox are not mine, and so when he is not at my house, I cant play them - no issue here, expected and happy with this, however, if I wanted to play these games myself (so we can play multi player) and
I brought either a key (for a digital download) or a physical disk, would I have to uninstall and reinstall the versions already on my xbox?

Scenario 1 - My Xbox has Minecraft on it, which is my sons - It was a digital download - I have not played it myself, so have no saved games - If I got a Digital code for myself for Minecraft, would I need to do anything other than just register the code?

Scenario 2 - Similar situation, but this time the game is Assassins creed Black flag, again a digital download, but this time I have briefly played it whilst he was at my hose and have a saved game on my profile. If I brought a physical disc of this game,
again would I need to do anything with my existing installation and would my existing saved game be OK?

Loving the Xbox One

Correct. Once you have the disk based game installed, purchasing the digital version will just unlock it so you no longer need the disk.

Check that the additional contents have been installed correctly using the "manage game" function. From the menu, you'll see if the DLCs have
been downloaded and installed.

For both examples you would not need to delete the game prior to downloading/installing it.

Go ahead and purchase the games on disc or digitally and continue enjoying them.

Disk two contains additional cars and tracks so you will be missing out unless you install it. On the main menu on the far right side is the option to install the 2nd disk if you have not already done so.

If you have not installed it (double check in game save info) and the option is not showing the go to forzamotorsport.net and post on turn10's forums and someone there will be able to offer more advice.

Yes. However, start with only a game or two that are already installed on your HDD: do not delete them first, but go to your purchase history, find them, and hit 'download' and it should only download a licence (approximate sizes a couple hundred KB). That
licence is the only thing that needs updating, and once you have that you will be able to play them offline.

Were these digitally purchased games or were they games installed from disks? If they were originally installed from disks, then they still need to have the disks inserted to authenticate ownership. If they were digital purchases, do they show up in your accounts purchase history and what happens when you try to redownload them from that purchase history?

We can easily have both here is how:

When you buy a game in store it works ofline, trade, sell, use share. each game will come with 2 disks.

1. Game data disk Blu-Ray (use this to instal game on Console)

2. DRM licence DVD-R (insert this disk to play your game)

If you want to connect your game to your Xbox account and have all of the features of X1 then put DVD-R into a dvd burner PC, go online/use app and link disk to your account - the DvD burner will then burn data onto the disk that will make the licence disk
void for offline play.

You will be required to have your X1 connect once every 24 hours to keep playing the game now. But the choice was completely yours. you now get all the benefits that DRM offered.
