Purchased xbox x controller to use on PC xbox app press start to play does nothing

I recently purchased an xbox x controller by ApowerA because it had a usb connection. I figured it was plug and play. It works fine with some of my emulators as i could map the controller to any button. When i try to play it on xbox app however, there is absolutely no button map configuration. I then looked up online how to do mapping, i was led to the xbox accessories application. I downloaded that i then noticed i can map all the buttons except the start and menu and buttons on the center of the controller. I wouldn't even have bothered with mapping the xbox controller to the xbox games, if the start button which is suppose to be the 3 horizontal lines would work. So, when i try to play perfect dark 360, or any other game that requires a start button it doesn't recognize the 3 lines as start, so i dont get to play with an xbox controller on xbox 360 games because most say press start to play. This is probably the most moronic application recognition I have ever delt with. How does an xbox controller said to be for microsoft not have flawless functioning on a microsoft application. I can use Xemu and play original games and the start button will be recognized, but on the xbox app it wont. What controllers are people using for their xbox app, so I can avoid this nonsense entirely.

I understand you need help with your controller.

Not sure which game this is happening to you but I believe that most Xbox 360 games would detect the menu button as the start button and most games would let you start as well by pressing A button. Is this not the case for some of your games?

Started having same issue with Xbox Console Companion App. Uninstalled/reinstalled app on PC, reset the XBOX One console and still issue.

I've started trying to stream via Xbox App. Everything seems fine until actually playing a game. Button presses and using controller seem to stutter, not register.

So currently cannot stream my Xbox via my PC in any capacity.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that you want to use your PS5 controller when playing your games from Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox App does not natively support PS5 controllers. However, there are third party controller emulation apps that you can use at your own risk such as DS4Windows or DualSense X to enable your PC to recognize it as an Xbox controller.

@jackobite the xbox does do screen shots , double tap middle button then press X , now goto pc and open up the xbox app and navigate to CAPTURES then download to pc

In this case, it wouldn't be a bad idea to update your controller's firmware. You can do this on your Series X or your Windows 10 PC. To do it on the Series X, connect it using the USB cable and then go to Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller. Then, select the Firmware version square, and then press Next to start the update process.

To do it on Windows 10, just download the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store. If you already have it installed, just run it. After opening the app, the procedure to update is the same one as on the Series X, press the "..." button and follow those steps.

Check if your controller works correctly after doing this.
