Purchased "xbox video" material unable to watch.

I have a collection of movies and TV shows saved on a NAS drive. I copied a movie and a TV series locally to the Surface in to the appropriate folders alongside videos purchased from the XBox store.

The paths created by the XBox store when I downloaded the purchased material are as follows:

C:\Users\username\Videos\Movies

C:\Users\username\Videos\TV

So (as I mentioned) I copied my wmv videos in to the Movies folder for the movie and in to the TV folder for the TV series (following the same folder convention as used by the XBox store (C:\Users\username\Videos\TV\Show Name\Season Number) and following
the same file naming format (Episode number follows by Episode Name).

This means my personal material is saved alongside the purchased material on the Surface. The fact that the material appears in the "Other" classification instead of in either "TV" or "Movie" leads me to think that there must be some metadata somewhere that
the XBox Video App is using to classify things instead of the folder structure.

I'm really hoping someone can help explain how it works, what to change in my own collection manually and whether there are any tools out there that would make batch editing easier.

Still having this proble. Contacted xbox chat supprt and they were no help at all. Still unable to watch any movies in xbox video

did try that, but it didnt help any, and now the video is expired..... is there any chance for a refund? since i was unable to watch the rented video?

I'm able to watch/stream the video and the rest of the season on the Xbox 360 with no problems.

If I wanted to download them on the Xbox 360 I would also be able to.

However, when I attempt to watch the sixth episode on the Windows 8 App, I'm then being asked to purchase it.

Which in turn makes it so I'm unable to view it on Windows 8 or download it.

I think that perhaps the person you were speaking with did not understand your question. When you purchase an item on the Xbox Live service (Game, DLC, Video) it is licensed to both you and your console (HOME on Xbox One console). If you load your gamertag
on another console and want to watch that video you rented/purchased there then just log into the Xbox Video option and select the video you want to watch either from your History or from your purchase list.
