    Purchased Gift Cards will not Redeem - Regional


    I live in Canada and have a Canadian microsoft account that is linked to my xbox. Today I locally purchased 2 Xbox gift cards. When I tried to redeem the code I get an error that states that the code is for another region which is weird because it is being
    sold locally so I would assume it should be for here.

    Any thoughts from anyone??

    What does it say when you try to redeem it? Are you in the same region as the gift card you purchased...ie as it's a US $ card, are you in the United States? As gift cards in a different currency cannot be redeemed in a different region....I have a UK account and can't redeem US $ cards

    Xbox Gift Cards are region locked, so a card purchased in the US wouldnt be able to be redeemed in India.

    As Zatomas said it can be used for anything though be mindful as well that gift cards or digital gifts can only be redeemed in the region they were purchased in.

    No. You and your friend are in two different regions, so gifts cannot be redeemed from another country. You could purchase an American gift card with the required funds to purchase the add-ons, and give your friend the gift card, so he/she can purchase the add-ons themselves.

    Gift cards can only be used in the region they are made for. So the card might redeem, but it will still show as dollars, not Euros and you would only be able to make a purchase if you change the region of your account.
