Purchased gift card and i can't play online..

Hi, i was wondering, i jus purchased a 3 month gift card for xbox live gold, i tried to play online and it sent me to another screen giving me the option to get gold, but i thought that gift card enabled us to play online with gold that way we didn't have
to put our debit or credit card information on there..

I never use a debit card online. You have much MUCH less protection using a debit card in general. It's like spending cash. I always use CC's for online purchases. In fact that's pretty much all I use it for. I also use MS gift cards when convenient. Sometimes I get paid in cash and I'll just buy gift cards for game purchases.

Gift cards. I have never used my debit card on any online surface or purchase. And, I never will. I use a credit card when I absolutely have to for purchases. Otherwise, I get cash and buy gift cards to use online. I don't trust any platform or network to host my credit card information.

I'm old-fashioned in that sense. I use cash where I can, when I can.

Try a hard reset of your console and see if that solves the problem.

Let's try to get you back online! If you haven't already, try performing a
Power Cycle on your console by holding down the Power Button on your Xbox until it shuts off. Afterwards, unplug the console from it's power source for 30 seconds, then simply plug it back in and turn it on. In some cases, a profile must be
removed and re-added in order to sync up the Gold subscription. Let us know if this helps you out!
