Hello,

I purchased Red Dead Redemption 2 on launch back in 2018 on my xbox one. I originally had xbox live at the time. I recently went back to play Red Dead redemption 2 and even still had it installed with the preorder bonus dlc installed on my console. When i went to launch the game it needed an update so i updated it. After completing the update i launched the game but it told me that the license could not be found. I went to the store and it showed up as a game that i had to purchase. I know i bought the game on launch (i have the preorder bonus) and know that there was no other free way to play the game back in 2018 which is the last time i played the game according to play time records. Even my linked accounts on my PC show my xbox games and show it as an owned game (Using GOG game sync).

I have checked my purchase history on my Microsoft account and it doesnt show up as one of my digital purchases. I do not have any other account on my xbox other than a single friend account and he does not own the game either so it was not purchased on that account.

How do i recover my license to play the game digitally?

If you're 100% sure you bought it on your account, you can try contacting support to see if they can find the purchase, but typically if does not show up on your order history, then it was not purchased on that account. http://support.xbox.com/contact-us

Xbox support should be aware of such an issue. They are aware there is an issue, but not what it is, or what the solution may be. They are the ones saying there is no license attached to the purchase. There words not mine. Again, if you can't play it on
a different console, it's not licensed. Also, if you know where it says all of this, please point it out to me. I've read everything I can find on the update, didn't see a word about it. Licensing is an all or nothing item. You have one or you don't. Other
people are having problems with license agreements even on the system they purchased games on. On top of tgat, I have 3 groups of friends who game share and are having no problems with licensing at all. Games they bought since the update work just fine.

When you say you use to have 24 digital games on it? Do you mean that when you bought the console and it already had some of those games on them?

When a game is purchased the license for that game goes along with that account that purchased it. The only way that you would lose that license is if the game was refunded for some reason.

If it was a games with gold Xbox one game you are required to have a gold subscription in order to keep the ability to play those games.

The best thing to do is to sign into your account at account.microsoft,com and look at your purchase history it will show any games that your account has the license for when it was purchased and if it was refunded.

No longer having the license for the game would be the reason that when you go into the store on the console or online and it says that you have to purchase the game.

When you purchase a game, you get 2 licenses to play it. One for whichever console you have as the home console, and one for the profile you used to purchase the game. Only the console license can be moved to another Xbox, which can be used by another profile and offline.

The profile license can only be used online, as it checks to see if you own the license to play the game.

It isn’t there but I have achievements for the game already from Xbox 360 and Xbox one. I remember purchasing the game back in 2018 .
