Proper setup for Xbox "Wireless Display" app?

I'm having trouble using the new Xbox Wireless Display app to mirror my Win10 desktop and play games.

I posted the other day that it seems to somehow kill or disable my NVIDIA GPU and revert to the Intel integrated chip, resulting in unplayable framerates. I didn't get much advice, and I've tried asking other places, too.

Then I had an "a-ha!" moment. It says "Wireless" right in the name of the app. But my whole house is wired with gigabit ethernet cable, including my laptop and my Xbox One.

Should I be running this strictly over wifi? My wifi coverage in this nearly 100-yo house isn't great, which is why my entertainment center got wired up.

Is wifi-only the intended configuration? I can't find much in the way of documentation for the app; not even much fanfare on how to find and install it. It's got no configuration options... nothing.

Those of you who are having success with it, how are your systems configured?

    :)

Proper setup for Xbox "Wireless Display" app?

    Hey Bundito,

Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, the wireless display feature can only be used over your local wireless network. Most of the configuration is done through your PC of choice, but make sure the

    Wireless Display app
is also installed on your Xbox. If you are having a hard time finding it on your console, you can always get the license for it through our

    Microsoft Store website
    . Hope this helps! :D

Proper setup for Xbox "Wireless Display" app?

    Hello!

Just to clarify you're trying to duplicate your display from your Windows 10 desktop to another screen while playing games on your computer?

    Bundito,

It looks like you are having issues with the new Xbox Wireless Display App. Let me see if I can help.

The first thing that I would check is the graphics settings you have for the app specifically.

On your Windows 10 machine, try the following:

    Open Settings

    Click System

    Click Display

At the bottom of the page you should see "Advanced Graphics Settings" Click on that link

On the page that appears, select the "Universal App" dropdown, and pick the Xbox Wireless Display App from the list.

Click the options button, and select "High Performance"

    Click Save

Give the app another try, and let us know how it goes.

Unfortunately, the wireless display feature can only be used over your local wireless network.
With all due respect, what's the ever-lovin' point of that? I've got Cat6 ethernet from my laptop to my Xbox (even through the same switch), but I've got to depend on unreliable WiFi? I appreciate you making the Streaming app available for free, but for
$30 and 20 minutes' work I can put Steam Link on a Raspberry Pi and get 95% of the same functionality. And since it can use (and is designed to use) my wired network, I get a rock-solid streaming connection.

I hope you have plans to add wired functionality to this app in the future. I wired up my living room for very reasonable uses, such as not waiting 7 hours for a 45GB digital game purchase to download. I don't really need more boxes and cables behind my
entertainment center, but if the Raspberry Pi Steam Link is going to work better, then that's what I'll be using.

A bit of guidance and some usage instructions would have been helpful, though. I wouldn't have wasted multiple evenings reinstalling drivers and tweaking settings trying to figure out what the heck was wrong. In the end, it seems like the design is a bit
    off, not my new laptop.

    Thanks, sincerely, for the clarification.
