Problems with Xbox One X recognizing media files on external storage

    Hi,

My Xbox One X is recognizing my external media storage but not all of the files on the drive. For the limited number of files that appear, multiple files produce an error messor when I try to play them. All
of the media players I am trying (Media Player, Kodi, VLC) have the same issue, so it seems to be an Xbox software issue.

    Specs:

    Xbox One X

    Drive: Seagate Expansion 8TB

Connected via USB; tried various USB ports

Media files: 414 .mkv files (backups of blu-rays and DVDs)

    Symptoms:

    - Xbox One X is recognizing the drive

    - In the media players I've tried, all display only .mkv files 75/414; in alpha order, only displays up to titles starting with A through F; no titles starting with the letter "G" or later.

    - Try to play various files that do appear, get an error message (in Microsoft Media Player): "Can't play. Please try again. If the problem continues," visit Xbox support, which has no info on this issue.

Tried restarting multiple times. Unplugging and replugging. Different USB ports. Followed Xbox support instructions for external drive recognition, including changing power setting to having the drive always on.

    Any ideas?

    :)

  2. Media player app not seeing files on USB flash

    Hey there LongingAbyss5,

What type of files and codecs are you using with your USB 3.0 drive? Are they compatible if you check this page

    here
? You might also want to try this guide for external drive detection problems on Xbox One.

Problems with Xbox One X recognizing media files on external storage

You do realize.that the xbox only recognize a few codecs right? Vlc uses multiple codecs it.is..impossible.to.match each and every one vlc is very very forgiving with codec and media errors consoles are not

Your best bet is to.use a media converter and use a more standardized codecs like

General Mp4 or ms media format

And no not every mp4 codec is the same

Hence why you need to use more standardized ones

I personally use Super converter as you can selected different formats and batch converr any of then rather then one format at a time

Almacenamiento externo XBOX ONE X [External storage XBOX ONE X]

    Web translation:

    External storage XBOX ONE X

Greetings. I have an external hard drive of 1 TB USB3.0 that I want to use as external storage of my xbox one x.
The console recognizes it correctly for multimedia, but when trying to use it for games there is a problem: When starting the format, the disc disappears from the list of devices as if it were disconnected and asks again for the format.

Each time the format begins, the same thing happens.

What can I do or should I do?

    Response:

    Hi there,

if the disc is recognized as Multi media this could be caused by a wrong usb cable, did the cable come with the external storage device or is it a different cable? If for example a USB 2.0 cable is used the external storage drive won't be recognized
    properly.

Also be sure to check if the console is fully updated and also try a different usb port on the console.

and to be sure please try the manual power cycle steps like mentioned on the following link, be sure to wait at least 60 seconds before powering on again:

Media Player for Xbox Series S is asking me to "Sign In" when opening the app. error code 0xc00d11cd (0x8000000e)

Hello Thomas C, I am an independent advisor and I will be happy to help you today. My name is Khaji

Error code 0xc00d11cd (0x8000000e) in the Xbox Series S Media Player app usually indicates a problem with authorization or access to media files.
Make sure you're signed in to your Xbox Series S account before opening the Media Player app. If you are not logged in, it may not allow you to access your media files.

Make sure your Xbox account privacy settings allow access to media files. You can do this by going to the privacy settings in the console and making sure that the option to allow other users to see your media is enabled.

Make sure the media files you want to play are compatible with the Xbox Media Player app. The Xbox Series S supports a variety of file formats, but some specific formats may not be supported. See the Xbox documentation for more information on supported file formats.

Also make sure the media files are located in the correct directory on your external hard drive. Media files must be placed in a folder called "Media Player" at the root of the external hard drive for the Media Player application to recognize them correctly.

Try a different storage device If you're still having problems, try connecting another storage device, such as a USB flash drive, to your Xbox Series S and check if the Media Player app can access the files on that device. This will help determine if the problem is related to the external hard drive or the console settings.

Update the Media Player app Make sure the Media Player app is updated to the latest available version. You can do this by going to the Xbox App Store and checking for updates for the app.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding! If you need anything else, do not hesitate to contact us again.

Xbox one can read pictures from external HD but not movies or music?

    Hi Pascal,

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. To have it as a media device, where it reads music and that. You would need to format it for that which is FAT32. Unfortunately, it will then not save games. It is also not advised to split the HD or create
dual partitions, on the same external HD. To best utilize both, you would need two external one formatted for media, the other formatted for games.

    Set up external storage

To use external storage with Xbox One games and apps, your hard drive must:

    • Hold 128 GB or more
    • Connect via USB 3.0

When you first connect, Xbox will prompt you to format your device. You can use it for Xbox games and apps, or for personal media such as pictures, music, and video. (Xbox will treat devices that don’t meet the above requirements as
    media storage.)

If your Xbox doesn’t recognize your external drive, see Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox
    One
    .

Note Xbox will recognize only two external drives at one time.

If you cancel formatting when you connect a storage device, you can set it up later:

    1. Press the Xbox button
to open the guide and select System > Settings >
      System > Storage.
    2. Select your device, and then select Format for games & apps.

    Thanks,

    Brad
