Problems with external hard drive with my Xbox one

After a dashboard update more than a year ago my WD MY Book 2tb external hard drive stopped working. It actually erased my profile from xbox. I spoke with support and we factory reset the xbox to no avail. I finally got my profile back after an angry
6 hour day of fiddling, but now anytime I try to plug the external hard drive in it shuts my xbox off. I tried to reformat using my laptop and my 360, no luck. If the hd is plugged in the xbox one won't even turn on. What the hell? It's been more than
a year and no solution. Is there a fix in the works or should I just throw out this hd? Is there a hard drive that works with the "new" update without all these issues? I'm hesitant to buy another external hd, because of this issue and the lack of response/fix
from MS. Stop updating the damn dashboard unless you know it won't render costly additional storage useless. I spent $80 on a hard drive that is useless now.

Unplayable

The Xbox hard drive is garbage, load everything on an external hard drive and your problems solved. I had my hard drive 50% full then it wouldn't do anything. Now with every single thing on an external is actually works correctly the way it should work.

If you aren't successful in reformatting the external hard drive with your laptop or any other regular computer, then it's likely that the hard drive has died. Microsoft has no real liability over external drives - problems with external drives are best
handled by taking it back to the store or contacting the drive's manufacturer.

It would be best to check
Western Digital's website to see if your drive is still covered under a manufacturer's warranty, so they'll at least send you a working replacement.

I am having trouble with my external hard drive on my xbox one and ever since that new update my xbox one wont recognize that my external hard drive is plugged in I have tried the trouble shooting steps and nothing seems to work and my external hard drive
is a 3.0 Toshiba external drive is this problem going to be fixed before its released to the general public because I want to play my games that are saved to that drive can anyone tell me if this problem is even being looked into at all

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

Nevermind.

I took the SSHD out of the enclosure and replaced the hard drive in my PS4 (increasing it's capacity from 500GB to 1TB). Then I took the 1TB external hard drive from my PS4 and made it the external hard drive for my Xbox and no longer have the issue.

It seems it was either the SSHD or the enclosure that didn't seem to quite work right as an external hard drive on the Xbox. Either way problem solved.

There is a possibility that there is either a connection issue with your external hard drive or somehow the external drive is corrupted. One possible solution is to uninstall the game and then reinstall the game. Try installing the game on only the internal Xbox hard drive to see if that fixes the problem. Also, try launching other games on your external hard drive to see if how those games are functioning normally.
