Question on USB flash drives
if i get a USB flash drive, can i save on addons on it? Like Call of Duty mappacks and stuff?
Most, though some require a HDD.
If you are only playing a couple
games and its DLC installs to a USB Memory Unit, you may be able to get by with a Memory Unit or two. If you plan to play a lot of games, you're better off with a HDD so you can install games to the HDD. That will save wear and tear on the optical drive.

The 360 can create USB Memory Units of up to 16GB usable space (15.9, they're using 0.1 for "something"). 16GB USB flash drives yield a usable space of around 14.3GB (16GB isn't 16GB the way the 360 calculates it). If you go with a 32GB USB flash drive,
you can create a USB MU with a full 16GB of usable space. The extra 1.7GB may or may not matter.

Can you use External hard Drives?

A USB HDD works the same way as a USB Memory Unit. As long as it is FAT32 formatted/partitioned, you can configure up to 16GB of the drive for use as a USB Memory Unit. The rest of the space will not be usable as a Memory Unit.

4. Problems with a 16GB USB memory

What are you trying to use the 16GB storage for, and what kind of console are you using (360/One)?

On the Xbox One, if you want a storage device to be used as a drive to store games, it must be

USB 3.0 AND at least 256GB in capacity
. Failing to meet either criteria will have the drive act as a basic media storage device (photos, music, movies, etc).

On the Xbox 360, I believe drives must meet an (unspecified) read/write speed test in order to be used as storage for anything. More info can be found

New External HDD works with Old xbox?

External (USB) hard drives will work on any model Xbox 360 in the same way a USB Flash memory. Regardless of the size of the hard drive, the X360 will only use a maximum of 16Gb of that memory. The rest of the memory will not
be available.

Burning games to USB?

Remember that external memory can only be formatted up to 16gb per unit no matter what size the usb is.
