Problems using Xbox 360 wireless receiver

I've been trying to connect my xbox 360 to my laptop using the xbox 360 wireless receiver. I followed all the proper steps but yet the controller won't connect to the wireless receiver. I really don't know what's wrong, can anyone help?

Controller not found in joy.cpl

XBOX controller is not used on the PC. If you want to play on the PC with XBOX controller you need Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver

support.xbox.com/.../xbox-360-wireless-gaming-receiver-windows or buy controller by logitech special for PC.

Connecting my Xbox 360 controller to Windows 8 laptop.

For wireless Xbox 360 controllers, you cannot use the charging cable to connect to a PC (it only transfers power, not data). To use the controller with a PC, you will either need an "Xbox 360 controller for Windows" (non-detachable cable) or use your existing
wireless controller with the wireless gaming receiver for Windows.

setup the receiver. If you haven't already, please take a look at our
Windows 360 Controller installation. There you will be given different methods of setting up the controller with your PC depending on which version of Windows you are currently running. Hope this helps, and be sure to let us know if this works for you.

make sure the device drivers are installed on windows search bar click control panel and hardware then click device manager and see if there is any yellow "!" by any device and make sure your receiver is on the list hope this helps

Nope no error messages, it seems like the Adapter itself is fine, it's just the controller can't seem to connect to it.

I'm using a Lenovo Y520 with Windows 10

Hey Lance,

Yes, I have already looked through the installation guide. I followed all the steps there yet i still can't connect the controller to the Wireless Receiver. i'm currently using Windows 10 and i followed all it's relevant steps but nothing is working.
