Problems transferring from 360 to one

Got my son an xbox one for Christmas. When I was setting it up, it had transferred his gamertag, but it was shorter, so I assumed that is what was required and didn't edit it. Despite me signing in and it recognising my account etc, it has not transferred
his xbox live and I am wondering if this is because of his gamertag? Can anyone help with him being able to access xbox live please? I don't really want to have to buy it again and am hoping there is something I can do. Please note I don't do techno jargon
so please reply in idiot proof speak! Many thanks!

There's still a lot of people (myself included) having problems transferring the core pack over from the 360. I'm also waiting on Excalibur and Earth Defense to make an appearance as there's an issue transferring those tables too.

You shouldn't have any issue transferring all of your saved characters to xbox one from 360.

are you transferring them correctly as only one save file can be uploaded at a time, so you have to transfer your saved data for each character one by one, I only just recently did this for my borderlands 2 saved characters and had major problems getting
all of the characters transferred.

Go to sign in (top left) and input his correct gamer tag, Should then load his profile.

 

as long as your using the correct email and password for the gamertag from the 360 on the one all should be good.
