In regard to your issue with your external HD, as our Ambassador has recommended, the support article entitled Troubleshoot external
storage detection on Xbox One should have some solutions to get you back in the game. In particular, you may wish to double

check that you have no pending system updates for your console as this is something that can definitely have effect on external HD detection.

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select
   System > Settings > System > Updates & downloads.
   
2. If you see Update available, there’s an update you need to install.
   
3. After you’re done installing the update, go back to Settings and select
   System > Storage. See if your device appears in the list.
   

However, if you try all the steps and it is still having the same issue, you may wish to try reformatting the HD using a PC to see if it will then allow it to continue to function correctly.
