cyclingthe console. Have you done some troubleshooting on the Xbox One Controller? If not, try this article:

If the problem persists, try doing a
soft factory reset of the console,
Reset and keep games and apps to help reset the operating system. Please note before doing this troubleshooting step, make sure to know your email and passwords for your Xbox profiles.

I've tried that to. It didn't help either. It couldn't find any updates when I searched for it.

Did he change the in game control configuration, or did he go into the Xbox Accessories app?

when you say "the handkontrolls doesn't work" do you mean the controller is not working at all, or, for example does pressing the 'A' button does not have the intended in game action?
