Press “A” to confirm the controller you would like to use.

This is a decision by the developer To require that you confirm the profile you would like to use and cannot be bypassed

I have the same and it dosent even let me hit A. The only things that work are the triggers, home button and joysticks. Please let me know if you figure out a solution.

If this is from a retailer then i would suggest you return it for a new one immediately. There is software you can download to configure the controller on PC where you can essentially test functionality of the controller. Confirms button presses things
like that.

First thing I would recommend to do is to try is to clear your cache:

Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.

Select Storage or Memory.

Highlight the storage you used, and then press Y on your controller.

Select Clear System Cache.

When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.

The second option would be to delete the map packs you bought and then re-download them.

What happens if you disconnect the wired controllers, power the console with a wireless controller, plug in one of the wired controllers, then the second wireless controller and finally the second wired controller. I'm not saying that will fix it mind, just
curious.

If that does nothing for you, you could try deleting and re updating your console software just in case there was a glitch when you last updated.

Go to the storage section on your console and select your storage device, press LB, press RB, press X, press LB,press RB, press X

You will be asked to confirm deletion of the the latest system update, confirm the action and your console will reboot and you will be asked to update again.
