I understand that you are experiencing issues accessing your gamebar recordings.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please verify folder permission by making sure that the folder has the proper read/write permissions. Right-click the Captures folder and select Properties.

Go to the Security tab, click Edit, and make sure your user account has Full Control. Apply changes and retry recording.

And then reset Xbox Game Bar app. To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Locate Xbox Game Bar and select Advanced Options.

Click Reset, then launch the app and test again.

Next is to update Windows and drivers by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and install all pending updates. Update your GPU drivers such as from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel’s website.

Then manually Set a New Capture Location. If you still can’t change the location through settings, please open File Explorer and navigate to your existing default captures folder.

Right-click the folder, select Properties > Location, and click Move to select a new path. Restart your PC and test.

If the issue persists after performing the troubleshooting steps, reinstall the Xbox Game Bar by opening powerShell as Administrator.

Run the following command to uninstall:

Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay* | Remove-AppxPackage

Reinstall the app via the Microsoft Store.

to my knowledge the xbox with read any formatted drive, will write captures to any drive formatted as ntfs, but the games storage partition uses something like exfat

... I shouldn't even have to change permissions on a folder to be able to view it to find the .exe...

Exactly. Logitech shouldn't need read or write permissions in the folder. They should simply detect if there is a running process with the Exe name running to apply your profile.

So it really is Logitech's issue if they need permissions in a folder you shouldn't normally have access to.

When you see the error message "write protected", means that you can read but you cannot write. If this error occurs you must log on at your PC as administrator, find the device in My Computer, then right click it, select properties, on the security tab
you will see a list of names; users that have allow or deny permission set on your device.

Select Edit, If you see your username in the list click on it.

If your username is not on the list click the add button and add it.

You will see under the list of username a list of permissions, on the allow side click full control, then Apply / Ok.

You should now be able to read and write as you have full control over the device.
