Please remove the suffix or add the 15 characters back with suffix.... it makes no sense

Hello,

As a long time supporter of Microsoft and active player on Xbox live since 2003. I have been very disappointed in the last couple of years as the Xbox experience I used to know and love is now gone, or crumbling before my eyes. The best part of having the gamer tag be a one of one was exactly that, it was the one and only... you had to be creative and it brought that much more excitement to reading and finding new players to see what cool/funny things people could come up with in just 15 characters. Now with the shortening to 12 characters that changes everything. Why not keep the 15 characters and still do the suffix if needed? Gamertags used to be personal...your saying we have “more options” now with the suffix system but you literally gave us less options and some numbers at the end no one wants unless they picked them.... In a time where major games like call of duty, at least warzone, you can already change your name to be anything even if someone has the same name. Your limiting our own player base for what? Innovation? I don’t see it..... if it’s not broken don’t fix it. With all due respect please find some compromise because this utterly makes no sense.

The 12 character cap is to keep the full limit with the suffix to 15-16 characters.

Why do gamertags only support 12 characters now?

We require at least 3 characters to auto-assign you a suffix and make sure that everybody has an equal chance to have a name they can be proud of. Many older games allowed 16 characters for displaying gamertags.
We’re reserving three of those characters for the suffix and one for the # symbol, leaving 12 characters for gamertags.

If it's got a suffix then the tag is in use somewhere on the servers. You would also get the suffix if you used special characters. The only way to remove a suffix is to choose another gamertag.

No. Using special characters will always add the suffix.

The limit is technically 15 still, the thing is to incorporate new characters, better spaces, and number prefixes or suffixes...its being cut down to 12 that the player can customize. If that makes any sense?
