Please help. Restore an old game saving from cloud X-Box Ultimate

Let's try to troubleshoot the issue of your game's cloud save via your Xbox Series X. We will first clear it locally and resync it back with the cloud:

*You must be signed in with the account that has the issue.
Press the Xbox button to open the guide and then select My games & apps > See all > Games.
Highlight the game title, and then press the Menu button on your controller.
Select Manage game and add-ons > Saved data.
Select Delete all to remove the local save of this game, then follow the prompts.
After you delete the local save, restart your Xbox:
Press and hold the Xbox button in the centre of your controller.
Select Restart console, then follow the prompts.

After you restart your Xbox, re-sync your saved games to the cloud. Your saved games are automatically stored in the cloud while you're connected to the Xbox service.
Try playing the game again to see if re-syncing with the cloud corrected the game problem.

If that doesn't work, you could try to reinstall the game from your Xbox console and sign in your account again through the game once reinstalled. But since the issue is with your cloud saves, there's no guarantee it would work but worth the try.

For our last resort, you really have to try deleting your game's cloud save which means that you'll lose all your saved progress for this game:
Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select My games & apps > See all > Games.
Highlight the game title, and then press the Menu button on your controller.
Select Manage game and add-ons.
Highlight Saved data, select your gamertag, and then select Delete everywhere to delete all saves (local and cloud) for this game.
After you've deleted all saves for this game, try playing the game and creating a new save to see if the issue reoccurs.

If you go into your settings and cloud storage is active then your game may be saved to the cloud. However if the new game start has been saved over the old data and the old data has been deleted from the cloud there is not an option to restore it.

just got off the phone with X-Box support. We cleaned the cache, removed and reinserted the hard drive, and restarted the system. It was still did not restore the saved information. I was told to reinstall all the downloaded data and that unfortunately,
the saved game data would not be able to be restored.

I guess that I have to saving to the cloud in order to make sure I don't lose it again

You have to Delete both saves from your X-box and the game. Also any cloud saves. Then start over. There are some that are having luck with starting the game on an old save and then from game menu, load the one you really want. This worked alot with past
Bethesda Games. I did it often with NV and it worked every time. I'm back to level 14 for the 5th time and all the latest updates. Things are still working fine this time. I did completely remove everything from my X-box and started from scratch though.
