Please help a clueless mum

Hi there,

I have asked a few xbox experts and they keep giving me links to follow to sort my problem but nothing is helping.

My 10 year old son has an xbox one and plays fortnight with his friends. He has a headset that he plugs into the jack in the controller and the xbox recognises it as it shows it in the top corner. Yet when he joins a party he cant hear anyone or use his
mic. Ive clicked on settings and devices but nothing is working. The headset is new and so it the controller. I dont know where to go from here. I know this is probably a very ammature question for alot of you professionals but if you could talk me through
it i would be very grateful. Thankyou

You could also test the controller you have at gamestop for free.

I have had this same issue in the past with my wifes headset as well as mine.

With her headset the actual headset did not allow game audio but, going the Settings>General>Volume & Audio Output : there you will find options that allow you to set up the headset speakers to (headset only) this may solve the issue. As for my headset it
took me and hour to realize the headset itself had a mute switch on it and turning that off fixed that headset.

Hello, I've read your post, and I believe I understand your position. The Xbox Ambassadors are here to help.

I'm fully familiar with the situation, I play fortnite competitive, and I deal with this communication issue on a daily basis.

Fortnite has its own audio settings and communication settings separate from Xbox. Start up the fortnite game, and in any menu or lobby once it's loaded, press the menu button. Right bumper click over to the communication settings, go down and adjust it
from party to in game. If your child ever joins another online party, it automatically switches communication settings, then you will have to go back and reset it. I have found it best to just invite my personal friends to an Xbox live party and communicate
with them solely there.
