Do you know how many old tv's are still floating around? millions and millions of them.

I'm talking about the sony kv34xbr 910s out there, the toshiba 36J9UA, and many more. Their native resolution is 1080i, and run with little to no input lag. These are beautiful cathode ray tube tv's that deserve to be supported. They cost a lot of money back in the 2000's (up to $3000) and I find it offensive that Microsoft would drop support for such a niche resolution. It insults the intelligence of the consumer because they think we don't know what the native resolution of our monitors are.

The suits at Microsoft must think that we are going to accidentally set our xboxs to 1080i on a 4k TV; and get lag, and motion blur. so instead of risking having a bad reputation on their brand name, they just disable 1080i resolution all together. I have been a faithful xbox consumer since the 2000's and I am disappointed at this neglect towards retro gamers, video buffs, and cinemafiles.

So, there's this company called Sony, and what a suprize! they still support the 1080i resolution on there newest machine. Miscrosoft, you have to get your suits to listen to me, the people have been asking for this, since 2014. Why cant you just re enable this resolution with a software update. Your graphics card can support it. I don't want to have to switch sides. Their controllers are flimsy and awkward to hold.

Because it doesn’t support component,, and anything with HDMI does progressive.

Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and WiiU can all output 1080i with no problems at all. Any cable set-top box outputs 1080i and usually it is the default output. It is not that difficult for an HD device to output 1080i.

They added 3D Blu-ray support and Dolby Digital to the Xbox One, so yes Microsoft is quite capable of adding features that were promised at launch. The hardware scaler is capable of 1080i, they're just not allowing 1080i output for some reason. They already implied that
they could add it, but they don't want to. So yes it is easy.

And all that's besides the point anyway. Before they start adding features that aren't necessary, they should be working to fix something that was promised at launch and is causing major issues with the proper functioning of many Xbox Ones.

I don't get it. I don't think that can be it. The sky is outputting 1080i and the xbox is only outputting 720p. I've tried telling the sky box to output 720p and no improvement. It's a lot blurrier. If my tv can display the sky box at 720 even tho it's outputting
1080i I don't get why the xbox can't. Thanks for your replies

According to the
manual for that TV, all SD signals are displayed in 480p and all HD signals are displayed in 1080i (hence why there's no resolution option).

You mention fiddling with the TV settings, but what about the Xbox display settings? The Xbox 360 can output 1080i, so try changing the output to 1080i (as detailed
here) and see if that works.

Good point about 1080i being the standard for broadcast HDTV and set-top boxes. Xbox One is the only device I know of that does not support 1080i output. The PS4 and WiiU both support 1080i. And the Xbox One has more reason to support 1080i output than
both of those consoles because of the HDMI-in and Live TV app since broadcast TV and STBs are in 1080i.

I don't think the problem is a handshake issue though. Even if it is and they fixed the handshake issue, the problem is the Xbox One will still scale the 1080i input from STBs to 1080p or 720p because the XB1 doesn't have 1080i output. And the Xbox One's
hardware scaler has been proven to be the cause of image quality issues. Here's just a couple of articles about the Xbox One's upscaling issues:

So, the sharpening filter has been fixed, but there are still issues with contrast/gamma boosting and crushed blacks.

They need to add 1080i output so consumers that care about the image quality from STBs have a choice in viewing the original 1080i without the Xbox One's poor upscaling and post-processing effects. This will also let those with 1080p TVs do the 1080i to
1080p upscaling on their TV if they choose to do so as apparently many HDTVs are better at upscaling 1080i to 1080p than the Xbox One is. As it is, it seems some people have given up on using the HDMI-in and Live TV app with the Xbox One because of the poor
image quality and that was one the Xbox One's biggest selling points.

Of course adding 1080i output is also needed for those of us with 1080i only HDTVs. So they have multiple reasons to add 1080i output, yet Microsoft still seems to be ignoring this issue.
