Play To - Unexpected Device Error

My Play To has stopped me from streaming.

Every file I try to stream says "Unexpected Device Error". I've restarted both laptop and Xbox, I've uninstalled Xbox Video.

No luck.

Xbox One - Play To from Windows 8.1 - Broken with new Router

I also have the Asus RT-AC68U and cannot get anything to play to my Xbox. It tries to connect, but WMP gives me an "unexpected device error." What do I do to fix this?

I went into Devices and Printers and it found and added the Xbox device. But using the Play To option when right clicking on an mp3 file brings up a playback window that just says contacting device followed by 'unexpected device error'

NOW REMEMBER, I can stream to the Xbox no problem from my Android device. So this is NOT a network/router or Xbox issue.

 

Hey, ATalkingPlayToy! Sorry you're running into this. What I would like you to do for me is have it do that error again, then immediately launch up your Event Viewer (here's
how to in Windows 7, in Windows 8 you just do a Search for "View event logs").

On the left side, I want you to click the arrow next to Windows Logs to drop it down, the select Application. It may take a few to load, but it should have an Error level near the top there. One of the columns
next to it should be Event ID. Please post back what the
Event ID is for me. We'll take it from there.

 

I have the same issue. Play To worked yesterday, now I just get "Unexpected Device Error"

Event ID 1000. Task Category (100)

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Hey, II Soopa II! That's a pretty generic error code. Do you happen to get any other errors or any warnings with a different Event ID?

 

same issue but my ID is 1002

 

I have the same issues, also provided feedback on the xbox preview program, it seems to have started for me after the latest preview update. I do not get a entry in the event viewer however, it just said error on the device (xbox one). There is already limited
DLNA support on the xbox one, not being able to stream to it is seriously hampering my use of it.

 

That's interesting, guys. Is everyone getting this error using the preview update?

 

Recently tried it out today and yes, the error remains. I checked and my Windows Media Player is updated, and so is my xbox (latest versions). The play to function works fine with AVI on my side. Its just these mkv....

 

I just had this problem, with Play To all of a sudden getting an error today, and couldn't find a resolution anywhere on the internet.

I was about to give up and wait it out when I remembered to try a hard reset. And then it started working. The hard reset tends to fix most problems the Xbox One is having.
