I just got my xbox to finally run 120hz after trying to figure it out for so long but it looks pixelated and just overall looks bad and sometimes the grey background will turn reddish and green after a while and i’m not sure why.. I have the series x and im using a 27 inch sceptre monitor hopefully someone can help and 60hz looks just fine but sometimes the screen will flicker but goes away after a while

Pixelated Display While Running 120hz on Series X

Yeah I've been using the cable that comes with the xbox and i still have the same issue and my xbox won’t allow me to use HDR10 so i’m not sure if it’s just the monitor that may be defective or what

Hello ThyDistortion! I'm Claus, an Independent Microsoft Community Consultant for Xbox! Glad to be able to help you!

Based on your report, it could be that your HDMI cable might not be sufficient to run 120Hz on your monitor. Have you tried to use the cable that comes bundled with the Xbox Series X?

Also, check if HDR10 is enabled or not, because this could cause some issues on your monitor.

Black Screen after turning on 120hz on Series X

As mentioned above, your monitor likely won't support what the Series X needs. Often the refresh rate is slightly different (due to different standards being used)....the Series X needs an exact 120Hz setting to run whereas the monitor may actually be 119Hz so it won't work.

If you have access to a computer or laptop, plug it in to the monitor and then got to Windows settings, click on "System", then "Display"...scroll down to "Advance Display Settings" and click it. This should display your monitor along with the refresh rate it will display. See whether it is displayed as 120Hz or 119Hz

While 4K 120Hz may sound nice, you'll not see it in games.

To get the true benefit of a high refresh display is to actually run the games at the same frame rate as the the refresh rate. The Series X maybe a powerful console, but won't play the latest games @4K 120.

Xbox Series X Compatibility with the Alienware 34” UltraWide Monitor

what i can gather is hdmi 1.4 supports 1080p at 120hz and 1440p at 75hz so it will run with series x but you will be stuck at 1440/60hz most likely.

now if the series x had display port that would solve the issue.

most games will be targeting 60fps on 1440 and 4k anyway on the series x with some varying degree.
