    Is there a microsoft number I can call? I tried that x box number earlier today and they said its not a x box issue its a microsoft issue but he said there is no contact information for microsoft. Is this true or should I just try to re call that x box number?

    New X-Box asking for phone number verification - no longer have that number

    Hi

    My nephew has a new X-Box for Christmas and he's set it up. However, its asking for phone number verification to a phone number that he no longer has access to.

    The X-Box just goes into a grey screen following this and you have to turn it off holding the power button in.

    Can anyone assist as he's had to revert to his old X-Box. Setting it up from scratch with a different account isn't an option as he has games purchases and progress that he wants to keep.

    Any assistance appreciated!

    When 2FA was first setup (where it sends a text verification code) on your nephew's account it would have given you/your nephew several backup codes (meant for this exact sort of situation) and would have told you to save them somewhere safe.

    Did you/your nephew save those backup codes? If you did then you can enter one of those instead when it asks for a code being sent to the old phone number and once logged in he can update the phone number to the correct one.

    If you/your nephew didn't save those backup codes then unfortunately the account wont be recoverable.

    Whenever 2fa is enabled if you dont have access to your phone number anymore than those backup codes are your absolute last resort for recovering an account so hopefully you/your nephew did save them like it said to.

    Hi,

    if it wasn't changed there should be an option below like 'I don't have access to this phone number anymore' or similar, that would lead him to different ways of verification.

    Your nephew wouldn't be the first one not seeing this option with a panic fuelled brain !

    Just try again to verify the account carefully step by step and you'll sure find a way without that old phone number.
