    I was on customer service support twice today and thought they could fix my issue I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem I tried to get a text sent to me on a phone number I've had for 13 years and it wouldn't send but it gave me the option
    of putting in a second email so I thought okay maybe that will work then it locked down my account for 30days and told me the only way to unlock the account was send me a text which it kept saying try again later I tried to do it for about 2 weeks at different
    times always the same message so I called today and even though they could do a call back at my phone number they said they couldn't send me and text and then told me my account was banned for 30days cause of a hacking attempt on the second call even though
    there was no mention of this in the first attempt to get service. is this a new things to lock down accounts for 30days I've never seen any other place do this... I did see people in multiple instates on here having trouble getting texts. I just don't understand
    they can't even see the computer I'm logging in from has always been the same. so much security already and yet there seems to be no end to how they make you jump through hoops

    Phone number verification?

    • Go to Manage your security info and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Select Add New under Phone number or under Alternate email address.
    • Follow the instructions to set up and confirm the new proof.
    • If you already have a proof on your account, you might need to use that proof to verify the addition of a new proof.
      Note Proofs can be added to new accounts without validation for a short period. Existing accounts will need to have their proofs validated by using an existing proof.
    • If you’re unable to access any of your current proofs (such as a phone number you don’t recognize or an expired email account), see Get help with
      your Microsoft account security proofs      .

    Try to use a different device such as a mobile phone or PC/laptop upon adding your phone number to see if it works.

    If you're still unable to add your phone number, this may be due to the number you're adding is already associated with a different Microsoft account.

    Kindly try to add a different phone number and please make sure that the number is not associated with any Microsoft account.

    im not sure what you mean. i cant login in to add another phone number and the only verification source attached to the account in question is an email. i dont get an option to add a phone number or use a phone number to get my verification code.

    The security proofs are for your accounts protection. You could just create another email and only use it as email for the proof for your account. I know several people who have done that. It just adds a second layer of security.
