Penalized for Purchasing Digital Games?

Hi all. I purchased a digital copy of Halo 5 last week when it was on sale for $39.99. It was announced Friday that this weekend only the price is dropping to $29.99 for Xbox Live Gold members to celebrate Halo World Championships. I didn't anticipate
the price dropping so quickly so I purchased it at the higher price. Otherwise I would have waited until this weekend to buy it. I contacted Xbox Support via chat and phone and was told that, per Microsoft policy, nothing could be done as far as refunding
or crediting me the $10 difference. I feel I shouldn't be penalized for purchasing my games digitally. If I had purchased a physical copy this wouldn't be a problem and I'd get the difference back at the store without a problem. What say you?

Unfortunate for sure but that is just the way it goes. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

 

Yeah unfortunately that's just how digital copies work. If you don't like it buy the physical copy. But either way you still got a pretty good deal since the game was originally 60$

 

Yep. And I got the H5G DDE for $45 Durned the HALO championship tournament sale.

 

I must add. that I buought $50 XBOX money from the cash I got from someone who bought my old 22 inch 1080P HDTV. I am getting 3 $100 XBOX money cards tomorrow from BESTBUY. Before you ask. There is such thing as a $100 XBOX gift card out there.

 

Hi! I am sorry you had this issue, and since you have already spoken to support, there's not really too much I can do. However, looking at it this way may change your outlook:

Purchasing digital games over physical games allows you to retain that game, without risking damaging it. It also allows you to have a purchase history, in case anything was to ever go wrong. So, in the long run, the $10 extra was probably worth it either
way. In the future, I suggest researching a bit before purchases, as I always like to do. Sometimes when you see big events (game releases, anniversaries, tournaments, etc) you can probably expect a sale of some sort to happen. Hopefully this atleast helped
you feel a little better about the purchase!

Unfortunately, Microsoft generally doesn't offer refunds for digitally-purchased games, barring a few exceptions.
