pc running win 8.1 pro and xbox one s ?companion app works win 10 true but why not win 8.1?

when i google the question about my having desktop pc with win 8.1 and an xbox one s console both connected to the same network, they even show up on each devices settings so they are connected. It seems that when I run the xbox companion app from pc it
will show the sign in but wont allow me to sign in just spins. at the far left it shows all the waiving avatars and ask or suggests that i try and find a game to play on my pc. this will take me to the store. i dont care bout that for now, I just want to know
can any games pc or xbox be played thru win 8.1 anymore?? some google forums have suggested they will but I cant get any thing to work. is that because they are phasing out 8.1 and want everyone and any connections to be win 10 only. similar to the win 7 no
longer supported. thanking anyone in advance

Win 10 is the minimum requirement to run the xbox companion app.

Can we use the new Xbox game pass with Windows 8.1 or only with Windows 10 ?

Win 10 only but you should be able to run win 10 if your running 8.1

Same procedure on my Laptop after installing Win 8.1.

Much more Apps don't work anymore with Win 8.1 (i.e. Mahjong, Minesweeper, solitaire collection a.s.o.)
