PC GamePass App uses 350MB (or more) of dedicated GPU VRAM, even when minimized to tray

Hello,

I noticed that an open PC GamePass App window is using about 350MB (or more) of my dedicated GPU VRAM. There is no option disable GPU rendering in the launcher.

Please provide assistance how to reduce the memory footprint of your launcher, especially when it is minimized to system tray. It then shows only the tray icon but uses the same amount of VRAM, as when the window is open.

Please add an option to disable launcher GPU rendering like Steam does, maybe? There, the option reduced Steam's VRAM usage from about 400MB to less than 50MB. Just as a reference.

mx2k2, unfortunately doesn't have an option to reduce the amount of RAM that is used to maintain it running even in the background. :/

yea I noticed there is no such option. Maybe the developers are reading too and may consider this as a feature request.

It is sort of annoying that all the game launchers do GPU rendering of the shop website for no apparent reason.

When I have Xbox PC GamePass App, Steam, GOG Galaxy, Epic Launcher and Ubisoft Connect running in the background/tray, GPU driver reports a dedicated VRAM usage of ~3GB (I only have 8 on the GPU and the stuff the launchers take up is missing during gameplay. Then swapping from VRAM to system RAM happens, which causes stuttering in games.

I wonder how high the resolution of the tray icon must be to get that exorbitant VRAM usage by some applications that aren't even games.

Shouldn't the launcher apps be in Suspended Mode, when running in the background, thus using no resources needed by the games I play?

Another general question about Windows:

When I boot up Windows 10 x64 and have not a single tray or other 3rd party application running, Windows alone uses 1.3 GB of my VRAM while Idle. I still remember Windows 7 or Windows XP that kinda used 0 VRAM in idle.

Is there a way to decrease the VRAM usage of idle Windows 10? All the VRAM seems to be used by some Windows internal app called DWM.

open start menu and type performance then select adjust appearance and performance of windows when that is open unselect all check boxes and apply, that should reduce some.

the reason a lot of the launchers use gpu especially in store view is they are using web based code, stem you can turn off hardware acceleration.

We need to know more about the spec of your PC, what type of PC, laptop/desktop and what CPU and GPU you have.

Also, virtual memory is not the same as real RAM, increasing it won't give you 64GB on a 32GB machine. GPU's can't use virtual memory.

VRAM is either dedicated graphics memory attached to a dedicated graphics processor/card uses or system RAM on PCs that have an integrated GPU.

RTX has 6.0 gb of VRAM and my Integrated graphics has 4, am I crazy to think this is possible and if it is possible, what program would I use to use these GPU's both at the same time?

The integrated graphics doesn't actually have 4GB of it's own VRAM. It gets its video memory from the much slower system RAM. When the dedicated graphics are engaged, you are tied to the amount VRAM your dedicated graphics card, the mobile RTX 3060 has. You can't add more VRAM to this.

To improve performance you'll need to drop settings down. The texture settings would be the first thing to change.
