PC Game Pass games crash at launch with Exception code: 0xc0000005

And what did I predict months before this -

EVERY BIG GAME INSTALLED VIA XBOX APP ON PC CRASHES WITH THIS ERROR. AND THE XBOX TEAM HAS NO SHAME WHATSOEVER! THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS AT THIS POINT. THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT.

I had already tried a clean boot, including disabling all "enabled" apps from task manager startup tab.

"Did a clean reboot by disabling all non-MS services in msconfig and startup."

Anyway, I tried that again and the game still crashes with same error.

I tried making space and moving Atomic Heart to C: but am still getting the same error you started the post with (Error code: (0xc0000005)). Not hopeful about Starfield working in a few days here...

Edit: Going to try and install some of the other games you listed to see if the error persists.

So that's a bug. When xbox app says I can install the game anywhere, but installing it on other drive makes it crash... that's a bug they need to fix.

I did call out that this is the possible cause. Quoting from my earlier replies in this thread -

My speculation is - xbox / MS Store / Windows expects the games to be present in C: drive. That's why it creates a junction link from C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\{game's folder} to D:\WindowsApps\{game's folder}.

But since the game is 90+ GB, and that amount of space is not actually available in C: drive, some storage or memory access miscalculation / error occurs when I try to run the game.

This has been an issue in xbox app for a long long time. This is not the game developer's problem, it's xbox app's problem. But MS does not want to fix it for some reason.
