PC Frames Drop/Capped, and Screen Freezes

I've had this computer a little over a year, and haven't worked it that hard at all. I have decently great specs for what I'm trying to accomplish on my PC, but it's just not performing at the rate it should. I came from a really bad laptop, so at first I thought the underperformance was the max of the PC at the time and was just glad to come away from the 30 fps mess I transitioned from. I try playing games like VALORANT that aren't spec heavy, and my PC can't keep up. I am usually stuck at a max of 200 fps, but during gameplay I'm hovering between 140-160 and occasionally drop to 80 fps. Many times I have tried to open task manager during a game to try and find what the problems been but my screen freezes and I'm forced to restart the computer. I can hear sounds, but the PC is unresponsive otherwise. It's not a problem with the monitor, as I've checked. I have an OMEN build, with a Ryzen 7 5700G and a 3070 for my GPU, along with 16 GB of DDR4 and Windows 11 installed. I'm just searching for some troubleshooting tips, and am open to suggestions. I'm willing to take this PC back, but if it could be avoided, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

PC Frames Drop/Capped, and Screen Freezes

    Hi, ISwift

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that your game PC has encountered performance problems, which may be caused by many factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try to solve the problem:

    1. Update drivers: Make sure all drivers (especially GPU drivers) are up to date. Outdated drivers may cause performance problems and stability problems. You can download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

    2. Check whether it is overheated: overheating will lead to throttling of CPU or GPU, which will lead to performance problems. Check your temperature with software such as HWMonitor or the utility program of GPU manufacturer. If the temperature is high, clean the cooling system and ensure the normal airflow in the chassis.

    3. Check background processes: Sometimes, background processes may run out of your system resources. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and check the CPU, GPU and memory usage while playing the game. If you find that any process uses an abnormal amount of resources, it may be worth shutting them down or investigating further.

    4. Adjust the power settings: Make sure your power plan is set to "High Performance" and your GPU power settings are also set to maximize performance in the control panel provided by the GPU manufacturer.

    5. Check for software conflicts: Sometimes, other software running in the background may conflict with your game. This includes anti-virus software, which sometimes interferes with game performance. Try to temporarily disable the antivirus software and see if it makes a difference.

    6. Scan for Malware: Perform a complete system scan to check for any malware that may affect system performance.

    7. Update Windows and Games: Make sure that Windows 11 is completely updated (Settings -Windows Update), and so is your game. Game patches usually include performance improvements and bug fixes.

    8. Check hardware problems: Run hardware diagnostics to check the health of components. Many computer manufacturers provide built-in diagnostic tools to check whether there are problems with RAM, hard drives and other hardware components.

    9. Check the graphics card settings: In the graphics card driver panel, check whether the "High Performance" mode is turned on.

    10. Check the health of SSD: If you use SSD, its health may affect the performance of the system. Use other tools such as CrystalDiskInfo to check the status of SSD.

I hope the above scheme can help you.

How to Run Xbox 360 Games at 60 FPS?

Console game frame rates are capped for hardware optimisation.

    .

Frame rates, on PC, depend entirely on the video card.

Minecraft on xbox one freezing during gameplay.

It can start as sudden frame drops to sub 10 fps just based on visuals, then freeze.

Sometimes you get more gradual frame drops but still gets to the point of freezing.

We've tested just leaving it frozen to see if it recovers but often times it will crash to home screen before it does, very seldom does it recover but it can unfreeze but frames will be low.

If we stand still and let the game just live it seems fine but as soon as we move to the point where chunks load the freezing starts. Lowering render distance didn't seem to help much on this front.

Hoping this helps narrow down the issue

    HDMI passthrough freezes (dropouts?)

I have the freeze problem when I have HDMI from PC. And this is what I was told.

The screen doesn't get 'updated' as input information changes unless it's a major change (e.g. the pc loads a new application or is playing media). If it's a small change like the position of the mouse cursor, or a couple of changed words on screen, then
the screen won't update and will appear to be frozen.

So long story short, neither the pc or the xbox freezes. The passthrough just displays an old frame since it thinks nothing has changed on screen. It won't update to a newer frame unless something major has happened. If media is playing (in foreground or
background), that is sufficiently enough "changes" such that the frames update appropriately. But many other actions are not sufficient.
