Parent permission for a child account not working

I bought a new xbox console. Logged in with my parent email. I then tried to add my 7 year old son. I get all the way to a point where i get an email to give him permission. When i click through and sign-in i get a message "something went wrong. It's not you, its us". That's it. This has been going on for one week now. Very frustrating for my son since he can't play through his own account. I let him play a little from my account but that's unsafe. Help please!

I checked the issue with Microsoft Account tech support, and they sent me back here.

On their end everything work as expected: my parent account and child account are properly connected, I see the child account under the parent account, can set the permissions for the child account.

But apparently the parent-child accounts relations are not propagated correctly to the Xbox LIVE system.

It is the issue one that error only comes up when a child account does not have the permissions to download the contrnt

Setting your account to adult is not changing your child account to an adult

It's telling you you cannot download it because you need to use parental permissions which only work on the xbox 360

You also.need a creditcard to.download.the content

Xbox one permissions do not work with 360 games

As mentioned you need to use an parental account or use your xbox 360

This isnt working for me, when i use my parent account, it still says “Sorry, (child account) you’ll need to ask for permission.

The parental account should give permission to the child account through the privacy settings.

1. Are you trying to add your son's account to Xbox Family Settings app?

2. Are you trying to sign in your son's profile to play games in your Xbox Console so he can play the games under your account or subscription?

If the purpose of adding your son's account to your Xbox console is to share your subscription, you may need to set your Xbox as home console. See:

If you are trying to add your son's account to Xbox Family settings app, try to add it on a browser or follow the steps below:

Using a web browser, sign in to family.microsoft.com. Sign into your Family Safety account.
Click Add a family member.
Enter family member’s phone number or email address and click Next.
Decide family member’s role (member or organizer) and click Next > Invite.

Note: Invitee will receive a link to join via email. It will prompt them to sign into their Microsoft account to accept and join the family group. If they are under statutory age they will also be prompted to request adult consent. See: Add people to your family group - Microsoft Support
