A "whole-home" internet solution that allows 30GB per month is not enough to sustain our family of three. Wife works from home as a transcriptionist part time. My son and I try to enjoy some casual gaming. No Netflix but we do enjoy some YouTube videos
every now and again. So our 30GB gets chewed up with normal usage. Throw in a 30-40GB Xbox One game download and our internet bill skyrockets to $500 for a single month (it's $10 per GB for overages). Not worth it. No new games for Xbox. Sorry Microsoft,
Verizon has us over a barrel on this one.

Folks...do not take your unlimited internet opportunities for granted. Those of us in rural communities with limited options pay out the nose for it. If we had any other option I would abandon this plan in a heartbeat.

I understand where Verizon is coming from though. I don't want to be the guy that ends up melting their tower because I used that 31st GB in a single month. So, I'll continue to pay for a plan every month and spend more time figuring out how to not use
it than actually enjoying the service I'm paying for.

    :)

Unfortunately I mean the monthly download limit imposed by our Internet service provider, not the console storage. There's no getting that back once we hit our limit for the month. That's our main concern.

I couldn't imagine have a capped provider. In this day and age it's scandalous to have a limit regardless of where you live. They're riding you basically. Sorry dude.

  5. *** 30gb a month? I have Comcast and I'm lucky enough to live in one of the states that has a data cap at 300gb a month. We sometimes go over that and it's 10 bucks for every additional 50gb used.

30gb? Wow. I mean caps, in general, are nothing but a money grab, but only 30gb? You are getting robbed my friend. Does you're provider have an competition in the area? With a cap of 30GB, I doubt it.

Thank you for the suggestion ngocphi, if we could go hardline I definitely would. We have no fiber, no cable and no DSL option at all. The Verizon HomeFusion uses a "cantenna" that supposedly houses 8 lte transmitter/receivers so yes, essentially a hotspot
    but a little more robust.

A buddy suggest getting HughesNet for the downloads and keeping the HomeFusion for gameplay. Sounded like a great idea since we used to have satellite and it was unlimited usage. However, HughesNet now has capped plans too. I would have thankfully paid
another $80 for the 65GB/month they advertise but those greedy bastards trick you too. They don't share the details until you are actually on the phone with them. Their 65GB plan is essentially 15GB any time data and a "bonus 50GB" that you can use between
the hours of 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM. What!

  9. Thank you DocShady. HughesNet is the only other option in our area and I learned they have switched over to capped plans too. They used to be unlimited, had them before but satellite service didn't work so well for my wife's transcription work that requires
a VPN connection. HughesNet doesn't work for first person shooter play either. But, it would have been a good secondary service to use for downloading the patches and new games for XBOX. Their 65GB/month plan is 15 "anytime GB's" and 50GB "bonus" data to
use between 2;00AM and 8:00AM...you know, when you are supposed to be sleeping.

I could not live where you do, ill stick to the UK and my unlimited data on my hardline and 4G mobile. that kind of plan would drive me to give up on tech alltogether.

  11. Thanks MetalRatul but change it to what? Like I said, we have no options that would not result in the same ridiculous cap. Any cell based solution is capped extremely low and I recently learned the satellite based solution is also practicing extremely
low data caps. We are a data consuming nation now and the ISPs know it. They have us over a barrel.

We live in a rural area with no copper or fiber feed to our neighborhood. If we had any other reasonable solution available then I would abandon this Verizon HomeFusion setup in a heartbeat. The last time I checked with AT&T about a T1 line to our home
it would result in up-front build-out fees of several thousand dollars plus a 3-year commitment for something in the neighborhood of $400-500 per month. That's not exactly budget friendly either. We're *** for now. So, please enjoy your unlimited ISP plans
while you have them and don't take them for granted because not everyone has those options available yet. I can only hope that our rural communities in the U.S. will someday have better options available to them too.
