    Original Xbox won't read discs


    Hey guys, anyone have experience with working on original Xbox?

    Mine stopped reading discs. I opened it up and replaced the laser, as I read that is a common problem since it is so old. It still does not read discs. It is in great shape overall, no capacitors have leaked.

    Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Did I miss something when I installed the new laser?

    Hi,

    Please do not take this the wrong way, I am all for preservation of old console hardware such as the original Xbox. However, discussions for self repair, even on 20 year old original console hardware is not allowed here. You'll need to go to some other website with your issue. There are loads of Retro Gaming enthusiasts sites.

    I found a possible solution for Xbox One S/X not reading discs upon initial boot.

    You'll know when your disc drive is messed up. It won't read anything and will make noises. I went through that with my original xbox and playstation 2.

    My Xbox took 4 or 5 try's to read a disc but now (as soon as I got Forza 6) won't read any disc.

    You can either take the disc back for a replacement from where ever you bought it or if you want the digital version you would have to buy it again.
