Original Xbox One (2015) and 4K TV

Hi there,

i use my original xbox one for all my tv (sky go extra) netflix etc and have today purchased an LG 4K Ultra HD TV.

I sat down to watch the football this evening and the picture was not great - the ball was difficult to track if moving quickly.

Picture was far superior on my older Samsung HD tv.

Is the TV trying to play this in 4k and the xbox cant support it?

I was torn between the LG and a Samsung in the shop - Salesman suggested the samsung would provide a better picture - 100hz v 50hz?

I am returning the TV tomorrow - is it worth giving the Samsung a try or do I need to upgrade my xbox?

Hi there,

please keep in mind that the experience on the TV can be determined by certain settings, making fast moving objects difficult to track, there are usually a bunch of settings on a TV that can improve the picture quality and the experience.

So before returning the TV you might want to try and change a couple of settings, perhaps even some recommended settings based on internet findings.

Also worth nothing is that the original Xbox one doesn't do 4K. You would need and S or X.

2 things: Are you at the right Hz setting (50 or 60?) Like, when I put my stuff at 60Hz, things get torn up. At 50 there is no problem.

And as @irb said; the original xbox one does not support 4k. You would need an xbox one s or x for that.

Hi DaRingers,

I dont think the Xbox One Original supports a 4k passthrough from your cable TV to your actual 4k TV.

You'd yo use the Xbox One X for that.

The Xbox One doesn't directly pass through the HDMI signal. It always "intercepts" everything coming in from the HDMI in port and processes it.

Since the original idea was to have TV and games "picture in picture", the Xbox takes the video signal, and processes it to be included with the TV app on the console and then outputs it via it's own video signal to the TV.

Since the original Xbox One isn't 4K capable, you will not get 4K from your cable box if you run it through the original Xbox One.
