Original Xbox game won’t play on Xbox 360

We just got a response from our internal team.

And these are the information they have provided: Note Most backward compatible Original Xbox games can be played on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. However, some backward compatible Original Xbox games are only available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles and won’t play on Xbox 360.

Also you need to keep in mind. If you’re not able to play a game on the following list, try updating your console software.

Thanks for getting back to me. We own the Spiderman 2 original xbox game physically on disc, so there is no way for us to actually download it on to our 360.

We also tried to play another Xbox original game that is on the backwards compatible list too and that didn’t play either.

We are unsure if there is some kind of update or patch needed to play these games? But the console doesn’t prompt us to any updates or anything.

The most confusing issue is that my son played it for a brief period of time the night before just fine and then it’s just been showing the error screen ever since.

Thank you for getting back with the thread.

It is possible that the game was corrupted or caused by hidden factors. We can try the following troubleshooting steps below:

1. Clear the system cache:

• Press the Guide button  on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.
  
• Select Storage.
  
• Highlight but don’t select a storage device, and then press the Y button on your controller for Device Options. Note It doesn't matter which storage device you choose. This clears the cache for all storage devices.
  
• On the Device Options screen, select Clear System Cache.
  
• When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.
  

When you’ve successfully cleared the system cache, you’ll return to the Storage Devices screen. You can then press the Guide button  on the controller and return to Xbox Home.

2. Remove and Re-add the Xbox profile.

1. Go to Settings and select System.
   
2. Select Storage. If you don’t connect any external storage devices to your console, select Hard Drive. If you do use external storage, select All Devices.
   
3. Select Profiles.
   
4. Select the Xbox profile that you want to delete and select Delete.
   
5. Select one of the following:
   
   • Delete Profile Only. This deletes the profile but leaves saved games and achievements.
     

Add profile on Xbox 360.

1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
   
2. Select Download Profile. Note: If you don’t see this option, it means that you’re signed in under another profile. Press the X button on your controller to sign out, confirm, and then select Download Profile.

It appears that you're having trouble playing Spiderman 2 on your Xbox 360. Let us work as a team to get to the bottom of this.

If you’re having trouble playing or using content you previously downloaded to your Xbox 360, there are several reasons this could be happening:

• There might be a problem with Xbox Live.
  
• You might not be signed in to Xbox Live, or there might be a problem with your Xbox Live connection.
  
• You’re trying to download content that’s associated with another Microsoft account or Xbox 360 console.
  

Here are the troubleshooting steps that we can perform:

Confirm that the content is in your console's game library.

To do this, you'll have to delete and then redownload the content. Here's how:

1. On your console, sign in to Xbox Live using the gamertag that you used when you originally purchased the content.
   
2. Go to settings, and then select System.
   
3. Select Storage, and then select the storage device on which the content is saved.
   
4. Select Games & Apps.
   
5. Select the content, and then select Delete. Confirm that you want to delete the item.
   
   Note If you don't find the content, look for a file named "Unknown Game" and select that.
   
6. Highlight any storage device, and then press the Y button on your controller. (It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
   
7. Select Clear System Cache.
   
8. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.
   
9. Return to Xbox Home.
   
10. Go to Settings, and then select Account.
    
11. Select Download History.
    
12. Select the content you’re having problems downloading, and then select Download Again.
