Online multiplayer and co-op not working on multiple pc game pass games

I just convinced a friend on pc to buy game pass so that we could play some online co-op and multiplayer games together. We tried to play Astroneer, Zoo tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection, and Wreckfest but every time that we attempted to join each other's game/server/lobby it would give us an error message. Is there a way to fix the online for these games and for pc game pass in general?

Yes buyers get the code. But anyone that rents the game or gets it used has to purchase the online pass. Thats just rediculous for a game that doesnt have multiplayer. The strange thing is I have the code but never used it yet and I have been able to play
the co-op campaign online. I will probably give my code to my wife and just have her rent the game.

The online pass just bothers me because the concept of removing the multiplayer is one thing, but then on top of that make the game have an online pass? Thats just wrong. I can see that pass for a game with actual multiplayer but not a game that has no
mp other than co-op. So wrong.

Technically, every game mode shipping with the game (except Theater is unconfirmed for multiple people) will be co-op. As 1337gamer said, Spartan Ops and Campaign will be co-op, but Forge and custom games are also included, and of course multiplayer matchmaking.
