    I was planning to play with my friend a game of Contra form the Xbox Live Arcade. I had it loaded on my Xbox 360. He was a 360 Live member, stopped when the Xbox One came out, and got back on Live with an Xbox One S mainly as a streaming device which
    also happens to play games. He had his Contra license for the 360 days, and was able to reload it, because he used the same Xbox account.

    We were able to talk to each other on Xbox Chat, but the game servers can’t connect us.

    The problem was he has it on Xbox One, and I have it on Xbox 360. And it is a 360 backwards compatible title.

    I asked if he has a 360 and he said no, so I had to load it on my One S.

    A big problem is that the game takes less than 10 Mb of space on the Xbox 360, but takes over 450 Mb on an Xbox One. And I have a big aversion to loading that much data, because, on the information superhighway, I am the Amish Buggy, and not by choice.
    The fastest we can go is 1.5 Mb/s in, 400 kb/s out, and that’s assuming no other internet is used in the household. So I had to wait an hour for the game to load on my Xbox One.

    Is this problem unique to Contra, or is this going to be a problem on all Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible titles? If it is a problem, why isn’t it fixed?

    He’s my only offline friend I play with regularly. I’d hate to download everything again, and at higher data quantities needed to be stored than the 360.

    Also why does the 360 version take up 10 Mb for disc space, and the One version take up 450 Mb?

    Sadly, Warhammer 40K Space Marines is not backwards compatible with Xbox One or Series X. The only way to play this game is on an Xbox 360 or by purchasing the PC version on Steam.

    Note: There is no separate list for Xbox 360 games on Series X. If I game is not BC on the Xbox One, it won't be BC on the Series X|S either.

    The Xbox One wasn't powerful enough to make all Xbox 360 games BC as the 360 hardware uses a totally different type of CPU architecture. Unfortunately, the BC program has now ended. No more Xbox 360 or original Xbox games will be made backwards compatible. It wasn't a simple process, hence the limited amount of titles.

    However, considering the console will be backwards compatible all the way back to the original console I have a feeling we'll be good.
    Pretty much full BC with Xbox One games. So yes, you will mostly likely be able to play together.

    As for the original Xbox and the 360, it will only be BC as far back as what has already been made BC. Which means

    all of these     and whatever MS adds later.

    If anyone is under the impression the Series X will play every Xbox game made, they're going to be disappointed.

    you can only see any xbox 360 purchases on a 360, only some of the 360 games are backward compat, so if it aint available to download on the xbox one then it is not BC.

    none of the 360 games are compatible on PC.
