One side of headphones not working, also audio chat mixer greyed

Need help, as the title says. Not exactly sure why, only my right one works and it sounds pretty bad. My headphones are pretty cheap and i think in then $20 range and i have been using them for quite a while so that could be the reason. I’ve turnt off
my controller, did a hard reset, restarted, tried twisting the plug in, moving my headphones, (which makes my left side turn on and off but it can never stay) tried to mess with my headphone jack with a toothpick, and updated my console and controller. Nothing
works. Also i think its worth mentioning that this also started when my xbox started acting funky and i have to plug in my plug in thingie inside the jack a few times before it can unlock my audio chat mixer so i can hear the game audio and not just party
audio.

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently inquiring about your mixer settings not working.

From experience I think the head phone jack is either broken or your 3.5MM connector for your headphones is broken.

Hi there!

Getting game audio is dependent on what type of headphones you have. If you have stereo headphones and you plug into the 3.5mm port on the controller, you can access the chat mixer slider by pressing the Xbox button and select "Audio" in the System tab right
under Settings. From there, the second slider down titled "Headset chat mixer" is where you control how loud you want the game audio compared to the chat audio.

Is their no type of mixer built in? .. Is this not something simple to impalement. in a System update ?? chat is unusable in game due to game audio overruling chat audio . plz fix this Xbox then I can chat with my mobile headphones till new headset gets
here.

Hmm... that is a possibility.... I have a pair of Tritton headphones myself, and I'm wondering (again, this might not be your issue, but it's worth a check) on MY unit, the little box where the audio cable plugs in (the cable that goes to the chat adapter)
has two volume wheels on it (this picture here:

This is consistent with the AX720 and 720+ models, but I'm not sure about the setup of your headphones. If you have one of these little controllers, one side is for game audio, and the other side is for chat audio. Could it be possible that the chat/voice
volume side has gotten cranked down all the way, so that even though the chat adapter is adjusted properly, the actual headphones have been turned down/muted? This would result in the behavior you're describing - the game volume is there, the chat audio is
muted, and no beeps are heard from the buttons, etc.

Just throwing some ideas out there, sorry if this doesn't help! I would suggest, if this doesn't help, you might also try your adapter using a different controller (at a friend's house or something.) If the adapter doesn't work again, then it definitely sounds
like a bad adapter.
