    One S initial update problems


    I just wanted to share this issue that I got fixed via Microsoft Tech Support,

    I just opened a new Xbox One S 500GB and hooked it up. One of the first steps is the initial update, at 3.6 GB. This download took 1.5 hours to reach 1%, while my other devices showed that I had no problems with my connection speed. (I ran Speedtest.net
    and got 26Mbps while this was happening)

    I didn't find any related problems with a few searches online, so I got on with Microsoft Tech Support Chat.

    The Support Agent had me power off the console and move the plug from my power strip to a wall outlet.

    After turning the console back on, the update proceeded at a normal speed.

    I don't know if the power strip was the real problem, or just restarting the console fixed the connection issue.

    Either way, I wanted to share this issue with anyone else who might be having similar problems.

    My brand new Xbox can't connect to the internet

    Just an S a couple days after christmas. Wire connection and it will not recognize wired connection after initial setup update. Switched back in the old xbox one and it works fine. old xbox even connects wirelessly with no problems. took my S over a family
    members house and it connected no problem. I don't get it either.

    Initial One S Console Update

    I just recently purchased an Xbox One S. The console itself has no issues, but my home internet is terrible and I cannot get it to update without sitting for 24+ hours to make sure the console doesn't sleep and shut off. It took 6 hours for it to update
    only 20%.

    Is there any way to just skip this initial update, or get it to update offline?

    That is correct. The Console has a built in surge suppressor. Using an external surge suppressor can cause all kinds of issues.

    First, power down your console fully and remove the power and network cables for at least 30 seconds. Plug the power cable back in and follow these steps:

    Step 1: Hold down the Eject and Bind buttons on your console.

    The Eject button is on the front of the original Xbox One console right next to the disk drive, while the Bind button is on the left side, directly adjacent to the disk drive, with a symbol that looks like “)))” on it. Note that on the Xbox One X and Xbox One S, both buttons are on the front of the console, with the Bind button sitting directly beneath the Xbox button on the right edge. The Xbox One S Digital doesn’t have an Eject button, so the Bind and Xbox buttons will do the trick. Once you are holding both buttons, press the Xbox (power) button on the front of the console.

    Step 2: Release the Xbox button, but continue holding the Eject and Bind buttons for 10-15 seconds. Listen for two tones before releasing these buttons. The Xbox Startup Troubleshooter will appear shortly after.

    Step 3: Select Reset This Xbox from the settings and proceed with the factory reset.

    Have you tried setting up the console without the app? As you can skip this

    If the problem it's that the update doesn't get further or you get a error message during the update, try using a mobile hotspot to end the updating process
