One month has gone by and still no solution with 4K playback issue on certain uhd discs...

For a month all you keep saying is that you're sorry and you're aware of the issue and it's being investigated. There are still some UHD discs manufactured by Universal Studios that will not play using the Blu-ray Disc app. I have tested Lucy & Oblivion
and the app locks up when it tries to load these movies. There have been many complaints from your customers about this. Some of them have gone back to the retailer to get a replacement disc and they still experience the same issue with the replaced disc.
Some of your reps are telling your customers to have their Xbox One S consoles to be sent in for repairs. It's not the disc or the console. Other uhd movies play fine on the console and when the disc that doesn't work on the console is inserted into another
4K Bluray player it plays fine. Your customers pay 30 plus dollars for these movies and we can't even watch them. What's bad is some of us had the movie for a month. The proper approach to address this is to listen to what your customers are saying, escalate
this to an upper tier of support and periodically have this followed up on by someone who will take ownership of this issue.

UHD Blu Rays

It doesn't support 4K UHD playback.

If you are referring to "Mastered in 4K" discs those are just 1080p titles made from a 4K master.

New hardware is required to playback UHD Blu-Ray.

XBOX ONE S poor HDR support with UHD BluRays

I'm having similar issue with HDR content especially through 4K UHD Blu-ray playback. There seems to be no fix for past 10 months. This is very poor of Microsoft to ignore. Now that Xbox One X is out, it too have HDR issues with 4K UHD player & Netflix app.

This is educated speculation

The scaler in the Xbox may only operate at 60hz. Your TV already has a scaler, no need to have the Xbox do it for you, so leaving “allow 4K” unchecked shouldn’t be an issue

I hear that. However, “allow 4K” is required to playback UHD Blu-ray Discs. Otherwise, it will play a UHD discs as HD.

Setting the display resolution to 1080p stops the upscaling and will automatically switch to 4K if the content is native 4K. But HD content still only plays at 60Hz no matter the display resolution setting.

Obsessive Power

I ended up doing that as I was a bit worried about the optical drive in my Xbox One x when it refused to play certain 4k Blue ray disks.

My old Xbox One X had issues with some UHD movies, so much so that I too bought a stand alone UHD Blue-ray player. Playback issues were (probably still are) common on the One X. I've never played a single Blu-ray, UHD Blu-ray or DVD in my Series X.

There really isn't any need to test all of the discs. Test a few. If the discs are in good clean order they would have played on another BD player.
