On Minecraft Java Edition I cannot hit the play button it says create username but won't...

I'm sorry to hear that you are having this problem, so you should select a new Java profile name and try again. If you are still having trouble selecting a unique Java profile name, please contact Minecraft support.

You are seeing username on Minecraft Java as it is a unique name for you when you are playing it. If you play Minecraft Java Edition, you would need to talk to Mojang to see if they have a possible way of doing this. If you play Minecraft Bedrock/Minecraft for Windows, there is no way to do this since the username is actually your Xbox gamertag - which cannot be deleted. I'm really sorry about this.

I have done that, i choose java and enter a username and it just says "Failed to create profile" however, when i go on win 10 edition i log in and it takes me in straight away, plus it has win 10 edition downloaded but doesn't say java is downloaded?

Recently, Microsoft started to integrate Minecraft Java accounts with Microsoft accounts. Could you have merged the wrong account at some point or signed in with the wrong account?
