    Old XBox 360 S hard drive a new XBox 360 S


    My XBox 360 S has the red dot/ring of death, so it looks I will definitely need a new Xbox. I have found some decently priced Xbox 360 consoles online, but they come decently priced because they all have 4 GB hard drives, which creates
    a problem because I have a 500 GB hard drive. I'm pretty sure the hard drive is not an issue with my old Xbox 360 (I took it out and attempted to power on the old Xbox 360 with the same results), so I definitely want to preserve the old hard drive memory.
    If I buy one of the Xbox 360 consoles with a 4 GB hard drive, do I then need to purchase another 500 GB hard drive to format to the new console, then transfer data from the old hard drive to the new hard drive?

    Just to add onto SoulDogWarrior's post, it is against the Terms of Use to use an old Xbox 360 hard drive in an Xbox 360 S console by taking off the shell. You must use an official 250 Gb or 320 GB Xbox 360 S hard drive only! I suggest getting a new and official
    hard drive before your account and/or console is ban.

    all xbox 360's have upgradable hard drives, the slims just have a different internal hdd from the old 360's.

    Are both hard drives for the 360 S or is one for the 360 S and the other for the original xbox 360?
