If you haven't already, try using a gmail account or another email service that isn't associated with Microsoft in any way, It's easy enough to create a new gmail account for example.

If you delete the account with the gmail domain all of the Microsoft services along with games, apps, progress linked to that email will be deleted. It will take 60 days to delete a Microsoft account.

Thanks but my contact preferences are already set to my hotmail account, the problem is that I still get some notifications sent to my old gmail account.

No worries Kenneth. It can be any type of email address account (Yahoo, Gmail, etc.) that is associated with the Microsoft account specifically.
