Old gamertag forgotten / new gamertag creation forced at first login

Hi Xbox on Windows Support Team,

I just logged into the Xbox on Windows 10 app for the first time using my Microsoft account. This is the same Microsoft account I used from 2007 to 2012 on my old Xbox 360 (I no longer possess the console).

Apparently the service seems to have forgotten my old gamertag "autosuggested" and forced me to create a new one "". When I try to change my gamertag back to "autosuggested" using the Xbox app, I'm told that it's already taken.

To re-iterate, I am not logging in with a new Microsoft account. My email address hasn't changed. Any chance someone could take a look at this issue for me and, if possible, change my gamertag back to "autosuggested"?

Need old Gamertag to Replace my new Gamertag

I do not know how to replace my old gamertag with my new gamertag. I made a new Windows Live ID account because i had forgotten all my old stuff, but I retrieved all my old stuff, But now I just want my old Gamertag. How do I replace the new with the old?

How to get my already buyed games from one gamertag to another

Hello everybody,

I have buyed a couple of games with my old gamertag.

After a problam during the XBox update I had to reset my XBox. Unfornunately I wasn't able to login with my old gamertag again. After that I created a new one with the same E-Mail address my "first" gamertag had.

So, how to get the games from my old gamertag to the new one?

ok if you have not signed in to a xbox with in a year (or sign into outlook--hotmail-- or skype with that account--basically ) your gamertag and everything gets reused. (also in the terms of use) there is really nothing you can do about it than change it

Not sure if the whole recycle thing is true for that timeframe. I recently went through this in Augustu/September with another @live account that I haven't logged into in a few years. After talking with an Xbox Support member, they indicated that the live
accounts would only be deactivated/purged if the account hadn't been used in 7 years. I finally gained access to my other account and it still had the same e-mail and the original gamer tag. Now what was unusual though is that weren't showing the gamer tag
had ever been accessed on the console when it showed on the console as logged into with Live. So it appears there are some disconnects but I don't think the recycle thing is a definitive thing.

I received a forced Gamertag change. Can XBLPET let me choose a new Gamertag for free?
Some rumors give the impression that XBLPET will provide a free Gamertag change to accounts that have received a forced Gamertag change. This is not the case.

In the past, a forced Gamertag change gave users the opportunity to change the offending Gamertag free of charge. Unfortunately, this gesture was prone to abuse, and many people simply chose new, equally offensive Gamertags. As a result,
the Gamertag enforcement process changed. A forced Gamertag change now automatically assigns a new Gamertag to the account, much in the same way a system-generated Gamertag is provided when you first sign up for Xbox Live.

If a player is unhappy with the assigned Gamertag and wishes to change it, he or she may purchase a new Gamertag through the

standard Gamertag change process.

for any new account the first gamertag change will be free in the first 30 days after account creation. After that all voluntary changes will have to be purchased.

There is no free gamertag change technically. With the current setup for Xbox Live sign-up, you're initially given a placeholder gamertag (generated by the system) and get to change that to something you want within the first 30 days of account creation.
This is no different than the old setup of having to pick an available gamertag right off the start.
