Oddball console/controller issue

Just got a used GoW 2TB Xbox One S console the other day and have been running into an issue where I power on the controller, the controller light stays on, yet the console itself doesn't power on. This happens even when the controller is plugged in to
the console via USB. A similar issue occurs when I power the console off, except the console powers off and not the controller, even if the controller is plugged in. I've factory reset the console, conducted a hard reset by holding the power button and unplugging
it, and have made sure the controller is fully updated. Anyone have an ideas as to what may be going on and how to solve the issue?

Have you checked to make sure the controller paired properly with the console? Have you tried another controller by chance to see if that one works?

The only suggestion I can give you is to send that console to the person you purchase it from. Second hand consoles come with buyer beware warning as no one really knows the way they have been used.

Luckily all it needed was a manual reinstallation of the most recent system update to solve the issue, otherwise I would've done just that.

Go to settings, then accessories and see if there is a controller update available. If there is, update it. If there isn't and it's still not working properly, see if a different controller works.
