Numbers in gametag

I changed my gametag to the one I use everywhere else. And it's pretty unique, I highly doubt that somebody will ever use it except me. But I got that numbers suffix after my tag anyway. It looks awful, especially in games. Only today I remembered that like 10 years ago I had another account in which I had same gametag and thats the reason why I got numbers when I change tag in my current account. It just was a second time "somebody" used this name. I reset my password for the old account and changed gametag there to something random, so right now there is only one account with my current tag, mine. But for some reason that numbers didn't disappear, I still have them although Im the only one using that tag. Will my tag be updated to the same one but without numbers automatically? Cause it's doesn't let me change it for "the same tag you already have"

I'm not 100% sure but I think meanwhile you can change the gt to the same gt when you change one letter size.

If you don't have a problem with that you could give it a try. Before the change you will see if you get a suffix again or not.

yeah, new thing is pretty dumb.. like Smwutches said you have to change your gamertag to something that's not already been used, or else it will add numbers at the end to keep the whole gamertag system in control because you can't have the same Gamertag as someone else yk? Anyway "You would have to change your tag to something else and then change it back to try getting the tag without the suffix." - Smwutches
