Not given the option to take screenshots or record game footage

It says to double tap the Xbox button and then press Y to take a screenshot and then I think X to record a video. However, when I double tap the button, I am not given any options. The only thing that happens is the side screen pops up. I checked in the
settings and the setting that allows broadcasts and game captures is checked. To try to fix the problem, I unchecked it, did a hard reset on the xbox, and then checked the option again. It still didn't work. It says the last update it had was 4/27/16, which
I think is the update that allowed screenshots. I haven't tried to take a screenshot before until recently, and the option to take a screenshot has never come up.

Can you take screenshots on the xbox one without a kinect?

You can indeed, if you double tap the circular Xbox button on the controller, it gives you the option to "Press X to Record That" or "Press Y to Take a Screenshot".

 

Game DVR broken since update.

This works however it only works if the game is started first...

Then you can use snap which will then show and not be greyed out.

The same applies to take a screenshot or record that

*Some games do not allow game DVR until you reach a certain screen but other than that, launch a game and while gaming double tap....if you see the options to record or take screenshot then you'll also see the options to snap game DVR and record

*always make sure your profile is assigned to the controller (it's actually possible to play a game by not have the profile assigned). I know...weird

 

I have only done it thru Kinect.

I tested it for you buy when I hit XX the help menu shows up. So I did it thru Kinect and I dont think there is any options. It just saves it to your xbox "DVR"

You MAY be able to upload them thru you Windows 10 PC but I havent done that yet.

 

Really sorry for this third post. I was hitting the wrong button . I did it from the controller . I just see that menu flash by and did not see any options.

It just tells you to hit X or Y.

 

It doesn't tell me to press anything though. The only thing that shows up is the menu.

 

That really long menu on the left should have a section to the right of it (sort of middle top of the screen)/

Just hit the Xbox button twice only and you should see those two buttons. Unless of course it goes off the top of the screen.

 

That's what I've been doing but the buttons don't show up. And I pressed Y because maybe they're just out of screen or something, but that doesn't do anything either.

 

Sorry cant help you with that part. does a section show up in the menus "take a screenshot " ?

Otherwise I am stumped.

Check the xbox DVR see if anything is there.

 

Nothing comes up about taking a screenshot. There is nothing in the DVR
