    Hi,

    I've been experiencing this common problem with the blu-ray app failing to start on my Xbox one x. This affects blur-ray movies, 4k movies and games. All of them are eventually failing in the same way.

    I've tried:

    Closing the app and restarting the app [Did not resolve the issue]

    Ejecting the disc, reinserting and restarting the app [Did not resolve the issue]

    Examining and Cleaning the disc from possible defects or smudges [Did not resolve the issue]

    Restarting the console [Did not resolve the issue]

    Hard Restarting the console (holding power button for 10 sec.), unplugging the power cord. [Worked once for a 4k movie. Doing this in additional instances didn't work]

    Uninstalling and reinstalling the Blu-ray app [Did not resolve the issue]

    Clearing out \ cancelling all pending updates in the queue [Did not resolve the issue]

    Soft Factory Reset (keeping all installed games and apps). [Worked once]

    The Soft Factory Reset seemed to resolve the issue temporarily, in that I was able to launch a 4k movie. I then exited that movie, and then tried launching a game (Destiny 2). It looked like for a moment that it would work, but then the game suddenly closed
    and gave me the error message again. I then tried to launch a different 4k movie and the same error message came back again.

    My power mode setting have always been set to: Energy Saving

    This is our primary way of watching blur-ray \ 4k movies, streaming TV (netflix & Hulu) and playing games. I need to get this resolved and none of the common troubleshooting solutions are working. Please help!

    No, I don't have an external drive connected. And, my console isn't enrolled in the preview program. :(

    Hello David,

    Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. I understand your console is having issues with the Blu-ray app, so there are issues playing any disc in general. Do you have an external hard drive connected to your Xbox one? If so, we recommend disconnecting
    it and then performing the power cycle again.

    Aside from that, is your console currently enrolled into the preview program?

    Hi David,

    I'm sorry to hear that your Xbox is having trouble playing or launching movies or games. Have you tried clearing the Blu-ray cache?

    You can get to these settings by pressing the Xbox button to
    open the guide, then select System > Settings > Devices & streaming and
    select Blu-ray. Then go into Persistent storage and Clear the cache at least 3 times and then restart your Xbox.

    If all else fails, then I would recommend a full factory reset removing everything from the console.

    Make sure you have the Blu-Ray app installed. Blu-Ray player function uses dvds too.

    While I saw a 3D option for a brief second in the Blu-ray settings panel, it disappeared. The Blu-ray player hasn't been updated yet to support 3D. I tested with a 3D disc and got the normal error message, then deleted the player and reinstalled it. The
    app creation date is still showing as November, 2013. They've stated an updated Blu-ray app is coming later in the preview.
