Not able to join friend’s minecraft servers

I keep getting the error code 100 saying I’m not able to connect, I’ve tried solutions posted on past questions with the same issue but it hasn’t changed. I’m on nintendo switch and my friends are on PC.

I have same issue for my kid, she is not able to add or join her friends minecraft and her settings are already changed to allow.

The computer denies her from adding friends or joining other servers.

Hi Aston I'd love to help.

As long as your dad was able to configure your privacy settings, you can be able to join public servers or join friends.

Try signing out from the Minecraft launcher and sign back in again.

Same problem. I'm trying ro record a friends minecraft server and it says I cannot join because we are not friends. This is really frustrating

Update: Microsoft's Minecraft support team didn't help much. To test this out, my and my friend set up a public mini game server, with my friend making a public Battle server. I joined from the "Join" tab, and it came up with the annoying "The connection to the server was lost. Exiting to main menu" error. My friend then disabled the option "Public Game." Then, if you join from the "Friends" tab it works just fine,
