No sound from xbox one on tv

Anyone have any idea what is going on.? When I try and watch tv through the xbox there is no sound. But if playing a game there is sound. This has happened before but comes back. Have tried different settings but with no joy. It's a sony tv and going through
a sky+HD box

Xbox One issues after 07.02.16 update

My Xbox one is no longer playing sound from Blue-Rays. It plays TV sound and will continue to play TV sound while Blue-Ray picture is running. This is since the latest update. I tried turning off the TV source then I have no sound. I restarted Xbox one twice
but no help.

Surround sound connection issues

Hi everyone,

I've tried everything, even been on live chat with M* for hours and can't resolve this.

I'm trying to get the Xbox One to play sound through my blu ray surround sound. I have a Panasonic TX50-AX802b TV and a Panasonic BTT465 surround sound system. I've tried all the things I can find on the forum and still no joy.

Tried 2 different set ups:

HDMI from TV to Xbox One, HDMI from Xbox One to surround sound;

HDMI from TV to Xbox One, optical cable from Xbox One to surround sound.

No sound coming through the surround sound at all.

Any help hugely appreciate, it's starting to drive me mad now

i'm having the same exact issue... xfinity, viera tv, sound bar with optical from tv.... all xbox one sounds work after idle... but TV sound won't come on unless I reboot the xbox.

very frustrating to have to reboot the xbox before watching TV every time

My suspicion is that since it appears to be a simple optical splitter (just bouncing the light through a piece of plastic), it doesn't block out the signal from the tv but routes both it and the signal from the Xbox One through on top of one another.

If the signal from the Xbox One works when connected directly to the sound system, you can get a Toslink switch with a manual toggle for quite cheap. The downside is that you have to switch it manually between the Xbox One and tv.

Also make sure that your sound system supports Dolby Digital over the Toslink input. If it doesn't, there is no real benefit from routing the sound directly from the Xbox One over tapping it from the tv's optical output.

If you can specify the make and model of the tv and sound system it can help in figuring out the best solution.

G’day george! I removed the settop cable from the xbox, and there is now no sound coming from the Xbox at all when in a game. The Tv has only one HDMI cable, so I have the Settop box plugged into the Xbox and the Xbox plugged into the TV. But again, No
